"Isn't the child yours too?" Sally retorted.

William looked at her coldly. "I don't even want this marriage, so why would I want a child?" Sally's face turned pale. "I knew you would say that, William. Why did I ever marry you? I regret it. If I could start over, I would rather have never married you!" William's tone was equally harsh. "Didn't you use every trick in the book to marry me? Did you think I wanted to marry you?" Sally's heart felt like it was tearing apart, her eyes reddening. "Yes, I used every trick, and you've been punishingever since!" He stayed out all night, rarely chome, and never treated this place as his hsince they married. She felt like she was living a life of emotional deprivation. "Punishing you? That's putting it lightly," William said with cold eyes. "I never even saw you as someone worth my time." Sally's heart grew colder. What had she been hoping for? That one day William would have a change of heart? No, she had not. She just could not let go. Now that their child was all grown up, she thought she had cto terms with everything. Yet, William continued to hurt her.

William never cared to look at her, only returning hfor specific reasons. It was never out of concern for her or their family.

His heart was ice cold. From the moment she was part of the York family, he had ceased to be part of it. Not even the death of his dad could bring him back.

William's face was cold and expressionless as he walked past her without a second glance. No matter how heartbroken or angry she was, he would never look back at her. Nor would he ever feel sorry for her.

Just then, Miranda cdownstairs and saw William. She instinctively stopped and called out, "Mr. York." William looked up at Miranda, his expression unchanged. "This is the York family. If you have any issues, talk to your parents, not her." His words were heartless. Miranda clenched her fists. "Mr. York!" William stopped.

"Have you never regretted anything?" she asked.

"I never do anything I regret," he replied.

It was not just Sally who was hurt by his words. Miranda felt the sting too. She forced a bitter smile and remained silent.

William walked past her and left.

Miranda turned her gaze to Sally, who could not even control her own husband. At this moment, she understood that in such a family, there was no place for feelings.

They were all cold-hearted. How could they possibly sympathize with her plight? She could not rely on anyone but herself.

She lifted her head and blinked back her tears, refusing to appear weak. She could not afford to be a weakling. She had to be strong and could not lose to anyone.

Everything she had done was justified. She had to continue down this path.

Heading downstairs, Miranda said to the tearful Sally, "Sally I'm going back"

Sally wiped her tears, looking at her with concern. "You're leaving already? I haven't even made you tea. If you catch a cold, it won't be good. Wait for me." She hurried to the kitchen, still caring deeply for Miranda.

But as Miranda watched her busy figure, she felt no warmth. She knew why Sally was so kind to her now, but itpwas too fate. When she was imprisoned, no one had helped her. Now that she was better, she no longer cared for their affection. Without looking back, Miranda left.

When Sally returned with the tea, Miranda was already gone.
