Chapter 820

“I don’t want Lillian to get hurt again. Besides, the conflict today is because of me, so I can’t not worry about her!”

Rosalie said.

“If you really can’t rest assured, I will have someone find out where Callum took Lillian…”

Right then, Rosalie’s phone rang. The caller ID showed that it was Lillian.

Rosalie hurriedly answered the call, and the familiar voice of her best friend came from the other end of the phone.

“Rosalie, are you okay?” “I’m fine. What about you? I heard from Jon’s men that Callum took you away. Do you

want me to pick you up?” Rosalie asked anxiously.

“No, I… I’ll go back by myself later. Don’t worry. Callum won’t do anything to me.” When Lillian said this, she

couldn’t help but glance at Callum, who was standing in front of her. Coincidentally, she met his gaze.

A brief moment later, Lillian quickly lowered her eyes and continued to ask Rosalie about the current situation. After

confirming that her friend was in the car with Jonathan and that they had left the scene of the incident while

Jonathan’s men had taken care of Jerick, she finally felt relieved.

After ending the call with Rosalie, Lillian phoned Jerick.

“I’m sorry, Jerick. I asked you to go shopping with me today, but this happened. How are you doing now?” Lillian

asked.

Hearing her talk to another man named Jerick grated on Callum’s nerves. He wondered, ‘She cares about that man

so much. Does she like him? It’s only natural for her to fall in love with another man, isn’t it? After all, I left her first.

But why… Why does my heart hurt so much? Why do I feel such resentment?

She used to love me so much! She even wanted to be with me for life!’

“That’s good. Me? I’m all right. I’ll tell you later. Okay… That’s it for now.” When Lillian finished the call with Jerick,

she looked up and met Callum’s burning gaze again.

A flash of pain seemed to flicker in his eyes, but it was gone in the next instant.

Lillian laughed and blamed herself for thinking too much.

“Mr. White, thank you for helping me… Well, block most of those things,” Lillian said. Presently, she and Callum

looked nothing if not disheveled.

In the chaos just now, even though Callum had quickly pulled her aside, she was still hit by some of the projectiles,

though Callum was a lot worse off than her.

Looking at the man who was supposed to be clean and handsome now with rotten vegetable leaves and eggshells

stuck on him, Lillian felt guilty. “But the truth is, you didn’t need to do this. Callum, we’ve already broken up, so

there’s no need for you to help me,” Lillian said.

Callum’s eyes turned cold at her words. “So, are you trying to say that next time, even if you are about to die in

front of me, I don’t need to save you? Is that it?”

His cold voice, along with the sudden chilly look that descended on his face, made Lillian feel as though something

had smashed her heart.

She bit her lip and spat out the word “yes.” If he helped her like this, that would only make his presence in her heart

even more obvious, and she would find it even more difficult to let him go.

His expression became colder while his body emanated an icy aura.

Suddenly, he sneered, “It’s because you already have another man, right? Jerick Backman, was it?”

As soon as the name came out of his mouth, Lillian’s face fell. Earlier, on the phone, she only said Jerick’s first

name but not his surname.

But now, Callum had said his full name, which could only mean one thing.

“You investigated him?”

“So what? What about you? How much do you love him? Is it as deeply as what you felt about me back then?”

There was a hint of suppressed jealousy in his tone.

“It’s none of your business,” Lillian said.

His face darkened a little under the light. “You are my ex-girlfriend, and that’s a fact. I don’t think it’s crossing the

line to be a little concerned about you, is it?”

“You said it yourself-ex-girlfriend. If you really want to show concern, Mr. White, you’d better do that to your current

girlfriend,” Lillian

retorted.

After a moment of silence, Callum suddenly said, “Did you hate me?” She was stunned for a moment and looked at

him in puzzlement as she didn’t understand why he suddenly asked this question.

“Did you ever hate me? For abandoning you during the hardest time for you and choosing to break up with you and

be with another woman.” He approached her slowly, one step at a time.

She almost subconsciously stepped back, but every time she took a step back, he came closer.

Eventually, her back touched the wall, and she had nowhere left to retreat.

His hands propped against the walls on both sides of her body, caging her in. The distance between them was

extremely close, and his breath tickled her face. However, nowhere on their bodies were they actually in contact

with each other.

“Do you hate me?” His voice continued to murmur, “Do you hate me for embracing another woman while you were

in pain? For enjoying the lavish life while you worked hard just for a living. For failing to uphold all the promises I

made to you before!”

He kept pressing the issue, as though he had to get her answer.

Lillian stared blankly at the face so close to hers. The man’s hair was still stained with egg whites and yolks, all of

which he had been hit with when protecting her.

Otherwise, those would have hit her.

However, the filth couldn’t obscure his handsomeness. Five years had been enough for the androgynous look on his

face to fade away. He had become more manly and reserved.

She stared into his beautiful eyes but couldn’t discern anything from the seemingly bottomless depths.

“I don’t hate you,” Lillian said slowly. “Callum, you are the one I loved. At that time, when I was in great pain, you

weren’t exactly having it easy either. I know you were caught between a rock and a hard place. If you had chosen

me back then, maybe you would have lost the chance to gain. everything of the White family. You would have only

been able to become an ordinary person.”

Callum’s eyes flashed with astonishment. He had not expected her to give

him such an answer, especially with the way he had phrased things. “You… don’t hate me?” he murmured, having

to practically force those words out of his mouth.

“No, I don’t, nor do I want to.” She said, “Hate is a feeling that only causes harm. The time I spent with you back

then was wonderful. I don’t want to tarnish those beautiful memories with hate. When the choice came down to

your career or love, you simply chose the former so that you could live the life you wanted.”
