Chapter 945

“Lillian is my best friend. If she faces a problem, I will help her no matter what,” Rosalie said.

Soon, the reports about the blood tests came out, and the medical experts that were arranged by Jonathan

urgently held a consultation with Lillian.

When Lillian woke up, she knew that something must be wrong with the progesterone shot given by the community

hospital.

There was an additional component in her blood that made her heart beat faster, thus affecting the fetus’

heartbeat. Usually, that would cause the fetus in the womb to die as a result.

“How could it be? Why is there something wrong with the progesterone shot?” In disbelief, Lillian covered her

abdomen nervously with both hands and murmured, “My baby…”

“The baby is fine at the moment, but we still need to observe it. The progesterone shot was administered directly

into the bloodstream, and it will cause a direct impact,” Rosalie said, trying to downplay the issue as much as

possible.

“Why is this happening? What’s wrong with the progesterone shot?” Lillian burst into tears. At that moment, she

was more concerned about her child’s well-being than her health.

It wasn’t until then that she realized the importance of her baby to her.

Rosalie guaranteed, saying, “I will find out what’s going on! For now, the most important thing for you is to rest well.

Don’t cry. It’s not good for your health. Rest well, and your baby will get through this ordeal.” Lillian quickly wiped

her tears. “Okay, I won’t cry. I’ll have a good rest. I won’t let anything happen to the baby.”

Rosalie waited until she fell asleep before leaving the hospital. Meanwhile, Jonathan’s car was parked outside the

hospital’s entrance.

Jonathan got out of the car and walked toward Rosalie. “Are you going back now?”

“Yes.” A hint of weariness appeared between Rosalie’s brows. She continued, “Why are you here? Didn’t I

say

that I could go back by myself?”

“I want to pick you up. Are you tired?” He asked.

“A little,” she replied.

They got in the car, and Jonathan asked, “How is Lillian now?”

“There’s nothing to worry about Lillian. With proper treatment, we can eliminate the effect of the drug. However,

we are unsure about the impact on the baby. We need to observe it again,” Rosalie said.

“It’s Madeline,” Jonathan said coldly.

“What?” Rosalie’s eyes widened in surprise. She continued, “Madeline? Have you found out it was her?” “Well, it’s

not difficult to find out about this. Nonetheless, Madeline managed to hide herself ahead of time. We are unable to

find her at the moment,” responded Jonathan.

A fierce determination flashed in Rosalie’s eyes as she thought, “How dare Madeline do this to Lillian? I will never let

her get away with this!”

“Can you locate her?” Rosalie asked.

“As long as she hasn’t left Strico, I can track her down eventually. It will take some time, though.” Jonathan saw the

rare anger on Rosalie’s face and asked, “Are you infuriated about what happened to Lillian?”

“Of course. How could Madeline use such despicable means against Lillian? It’s evident that she intended to

threaten the child’s life using that injection. Doesn’t she realize how important a child is to a mother?” Rosalie spoke

angrily.

Jonathan lowered his eyes. A sardonic smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “Some mothers treat their child as a

disposable tool that can be discarded at any time, though.”

Rosalie was stunned, realizing that her words had once again reminded him of his own mother.

“Mrs. Smuckler has been regretful all these years. She has been missing you dearly,” Rosalie said. “Don’t mention

her again. I don’t want to hear about her,” Jonathan interrupted her.

She hesitated to reply. In the end, she chose to keep mum.

When they returned to the Youngblood residence, the two children were already asleep. Rosalie and Jonathan went

to the bedroom. As Jonathan was changing his clothes, the scar on his chest entered her line of sight.

She could feel a sharp pain in her heart. The obvious scar represented the injuries that he had endured in the past.

With current medical technology, the scar could have been easily removed with laser treatments. However,

Jonathan chose to retain the scar on his body. It was as if he was trying to remind himself of the hurt inflicted by his

mother in the past.

“Jon, will you truly be happy like this?” Rosalie asked abruptly.

“What?” He turned to look at her.

She walked up to him and gently ran her hand over the scar on his chest. “It seems like you’ve never truly let go of

the past. Are you really happy?”

His body tensed, and he gazed at her with an unreadable expression. “Why? Are you trying to plead for her again?”

“I wish Mrs. Smuckler could get her treatment, but I hope that you can truly let go of the past as well. Or else, you

will never be happy,” she replied.

“I will let go of the past when she receives the punishment that she deserves,” said Jonathan. He pulled her hand

away and went into the bathroom.

Rosalie took out her phone and looked at the message she had received today with a frown.

Last time, she had asked Calvin’s men to locate the whereabouts of Connor and Kaylie. She had just been informed

that they had found them in a shabby apartment. It was not far from the street where Jonathan’s father Lucian

died.

Kaylie was currently in a poor condition. She was running on a high fever and on the brink of losing consciousness

at any time.

Around the apartment, there were Jonathan’s men guarding. She also ensured that both of them would receive

three meals a day.

Rosalie frowned. She thought, “At this critical point, I have to send Mrs. Smuckler to the hospital. Otherwise, it could

truly be a matter of life and death! I don’t want Mrs. Smuckler to die and Jon’s hands to be stained with the blood of

his mother. If that happens, it would be tragic. Nothing can be done if Mrs. Smuckler passes away. He wouldn’t have

a chance to make amends, even if he wanted to.”

Back then, Kaylie’s mistake led to the death of Lucian, Jonathan’s father. Even though she regretted it for years, it

was already too late.

Thinking of that, Rosalie finally replied to the person with determination before putting her phone away. She walked

straight to the bathroom and opened the door.

A mist clouded her vision, and she heard the sound of running water.

Under the shower head, Jonathan’s lean and fit body caught Rosalie’s attention. There seemed to be a flicker of

curiosity in his dark eyes.

Rosalie hurried forward, putting her arms around his neck. With that, she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him

affectionately.

The warm water flowed down, simultaneously drenching her entire body.
