Brandon held her for ages, feeling a peace he hadn't felt in forever. He didn't want to let her go, and honestly, he didn't plan to.

He couldn't remember how many years it had been since he'd last watched the sunset or simply observed the passerby.

Since college, his life had been on fast-forward, with work hogging the spotlight.

Even during the two years he was married, and the two years post-divorce, his stride through life had never slowed, and as such,

he had missed and overlooked much.

After a while, Brandon finally let go of Sophia, but not entirely. Instead, he just gazed at her quietly.

"Sophia," he said in a hoarse whisper, "I'm sorry for those two years."

His raspy apology almost drew tears to Sophia's eyes again.

She tried to muster a smile for him, but her eyes betrayed the emotions swirling within.

This bouquet and this "sorry" were like fine sand, slowly filling the cracks wrought by time— fissures she thought had been buried

deep in the years, never to concern her again.

"Shall we go eat?"

He asked softly, looking into her eyes.

Sophia nodded, "Sure."

Brandon took her to the food street not far from the school.

That food street had been around since their school days, tucked away in an alley, nothing upscale about it, but always buzzing

with life and the homely charm of cooking fires.

It was Brandon who had first brought her there during high school.

Sophia hadn't been back in those two years.

Now, stepping into this place again, the familiar scents hit her all at once.

The food street catered to students, so nothing was pricey. There weren't many fancy joints, mostly fast-food or noodle shops, and

an assortment of dessert, coffee, and snack stands.

Brandon and Sophia chose a spot at random and ate casually.

Although the place had changed a bit over the years, with shops getting face-lifts, that faint sense of familiarity lingered, stirring a

nostalgia impossible to resist.

After dinner, they wandered back to their high school campus.

The honor board, plastered with the names of students who'd made it to college, was still there.

In a slightly worn corner, Sophia spotted her nand Brandon's.

Both had been among the top scorers that year, their names prominent at the top of the list, easy to spot.

This was Sophia’s first tseeing this board.

She'd left town right after the tests and paid attention to where her classmates, including Brandon, had ended up.

Brandon gazed at the now-yellowed honor board, a soft look of reminiscence drifting across his handsface.

That summer, he had cback many times, often pausing in front of the board, getting lost in thought at the sight of "Sophia" on

it, then walking away without looking back.

"Why did you leave without a word back then?"

After a long look at the honor board, Brandon turned to Sophia and asked quietly.

Sophia pursed her lips, then looked at him.

"I was just felt kind of down. It seemed like you were ignoringsuddenly, like | thought maybe | was bothering you. It hurt a

little, so | had to go."

After saying this, Sophia couldn't help but flash him a smile. "I was young, a bit too sensitive back then."

Brandon smiled too, then took a step closer and wrapped her in a gentle hug.

"I'm sorry," he apologized again in a hoarse voice.

Sophia shook her head and smiled back at him. "It's all right."

They both smiled.

Right then, Sophia's phone rang. It was a video call from Susan.

Sophia answered, and Theresa's chubby little face appeared on the screen.
