"Sure thing, just be safe, alright?"

Don nodded. This issue could be a big deal or a small fry, but it definitely needed someone with clout to handle it.

He had been swamped with work lately, couldn't even catch a break, so he had to send Sophia to scope things out first.

"Alright, I'll pack a bit, and head over in a jiffy."

Sophia said, bidding Don farewell, and went back to her office to delegate her tasks before heading home.

Theresa was also at home. Seeing Sophia return made her super happy. She immediately dropped her toy and scurried over,

handing Sophia her slippers and peeking around her, looking for Brandon. Not seeing him, she couldn't help but ask with a puzzled

frown, "Mommy, where's Daddy?"

"Daddy's still at work, he'll chafter," Sophia explained, squatting down in front of her. "I have to go on a business trip for

a few days, so you will stay with Daddy at home, okay?"

"When will you be back, Mommy?" Theresa asked, her little face losing its initial joy and filling with longing.

Sophia's heart melted.

She leaned in for a tight hug and took a while to let go, whispering gently, "I don't know yet, but | promise, as soon as | can, I'll

rush back to be with you, okay?"

That calmed Theresa right down, and she nodded. "Okay."

"Now, you be a good girl and listen to Daddy while I'm gone, deal?" Sophia asked.

Theresa nodded again. "Deal."

Sophia stroked her head lovingly before standing up to pack her bags.

She had booked a high-speed train ticket for two hours later; the situation was urgent and she couldn't afford to dilly-dally. After

packing, she grabbed a cab to the train station.

As she got on the train, Sophia pulled out her phone and fired off a message to Brandon.

[I'll be away on a business trip for the next few days. Theresa's in your hands.]

After typing it, her finger hesitated for a moment before she finally hit "Send" and the message zoomed off to Brandon.

Brandon was in the middle of a work update with Kent when the message popped up. It caught his eye and he paused, getting lost

in thought over the words.

Kent stopped talking and looked at Brandon with concern. "Mr. Crawley?"

Brandon glanced up. "Is there any project at Star-Dempsey Architects that requires traveling lately?"

"Not that I'm aware of," Kent replied, a bit unsure. "I haven't heard Don mention anything about a trip. He seems pretty chill these

days."

Kent saw Brandon's brow furrow slightly, a thoughtful look on his face.

"Something up?" Kent asked cautiously, his gaze drifting towards Brandon's phone on the desk corner.

But the screen was dark, revealing nothing.

"It's nothing," Brandon said, shifting his gaze back. "You can go now."

"Sure thing."

Kent quickly left, carefully closing the office door behind him.

Brandon's eyes returned to his phone on the desk. After a moment, he picked it up again, staring at the message for a while before

quickly replying to Sophia. [When will you be back?]

Sophia's reply cswiftly. [Not sure yet.]

Brandon's brow knitted at that, his fingers tapping the phone uneasily. An unexplainable restlessness took hold of him, and he

couldn't help but wonder if she was thinking of leaving him and Theresa for good.

These past days, she hadn't been much involved in Theresa's daily care, almost as if she was stepping back to let him and Theresa

adjust to each other.

Brandon couldn't help but speculate.

The last tshe planned to take Theresa away, she was working in the morning, even had lunch brought in by a colleague at

noon, but she vanished without a trace while everyone was out for lunch.

Pulling a fast one was nothing new to her.

Brandon let out a heavy sigh, trying to quell the irritation bubbling inside.

He picked up his phone and made a video call to Grace.

The call was answered quickly, the backdrop, their home.

"Is Theresa at home?" Brandon asked.

"Yes, but she's asleep," Grace replied, pointing the camera towards the sleeping Theresa.

"Did Theresa's mom stop by just now?" he asked.

Grace nodded. "Yep. Sophia said she had to go on a trip, packed her stuff, and left."

"Did she tell Theresa how long she'd be gone?" Brandon inquired.

Grace shook her head. "No, she didn't."

"Has it always been like this?" Brandon probed further. "Wouldn't she tell Theresa when she'd be back?"

"That's not like her," Grace immediately shook her head. "Sophia always tells Theresa where she's going and for how long, so

Theresa won't get scared."

Brandon's frown deepened.
