Chapter 2379

Ivy was about to answer the door for Alyssa, but she forgot she had left her crutches by the entryway.

As she stood up abruptly, she lost her balance and tumbled to the floor, the thud echoing noisily in the

silent night, causing Alyssa’s heart to leap into her throat.

“Goodness gracious, what’s happened? Are you hurt? Take your time, dear, I’m right outside waiting.

No rush at all.”

Ivy’s knee had taken a hard knock on the floor. After kneeling in a daze for a few seconds, she

gathered herself and pushed up to stand.

“Granny, I’m alright, just a little bump. I’ll be there to open the door for you in a jiffy.”

Ivy struggled to her feet, using the wall for support as she opened the door.

Alyssa saw her disheveled hair and her limping stance and felt a lump form in her throat.

Alyssa, eager to have a heart-to-heart with Ivy, nodded. Once the lights were on, she noticed the

unmistakable signs that Ivy had been crying.

“What on earth is the matter? You look so upset. I asked Balfour, and he wouldn’t tell me.”

Filled with compassion, Alyssa stood up, intent on boiling an egg to help reduce Ivy’s swelling.

“It’s nothing, Granny, you’re overthinking it. I was watching a movie just now. It was so sad that I ended

up crying along with it.”-

Alyssa wasn’t buying her fib, “Then why didn’t Balfour tell me how you are doing? What is it that I can’t

know?”

Ivy looked up, meeting Alyssa’s gaze. “Alyssa, there’s nothing about me I wouldn’t tell you. But really,

nothing’s happened, or I’d say it straight out, right?”

Still skeptical, Alyssa knew she would get to the bottom of it eventually.

“Oh dear, I got so caught up chatting with you I nearly forgot. I had Althea whip up your favorite chicken

soup. You always loved it back home, didn’t you? I had her make pot to bring over. Just pop it in the

microwave when you’re peckish, and it’s good Althea said it can be kept in the fridge for at least three

days.”
